Vocab focusing on Theory & Logotypes


Modernism- A break from past literary movements and there were more experimental forms that focused on subjectivity and individualism.

Postmodernism- Focused on individual experience and the understanding of our experience was more concrete than abstract ideas.  

Abstract Mark- This is a community of abstract artists that display or discuss paintings or drawings where marks, textures, gestures patterns, brush strokes, and lettering, etc. are key to making a piece stand out and be prominent.

Emblem- An abstract or pictorial representation of an image that represents a concept such as a concept, such as a moral truth, an allegory, or a person such as a saint.

Lettermark- A typography-based logo that is made up of a few letters, and is typically a company’s initials.

Pictorial Mark or Symbol- This is an icon-or graphic-based logo. Such as Apple or the M for McDonalds.

Mascot- A living character that represents an organization or business. For example, Tony the Tiger and Frosted Flakes.




Wordmark- A logo design with only the company’s name, no symbol or badges. An example is Google or FedEx.
