I was able to find several great sources for writing mission
statements, with one of the best links being Mind Tools. This source explained
what mission statements are and why you need them, as well as giving
explanations on how to write one and provided several effective examples from companies.
Mission statements serve the purpose of explaining what an
organization’s purpose is and their direction. They are written in present
tense, and briefly explain why a company exists. They are for not only the organization,
but also for people outside the company whether that be customers or others.
They are made to be short but still powerful.
One of my favorite mission statements from
the ones that they provided was Nike’s. It is short yet extremely effective, an
invokes emotion into the reader.
The two biggest tips they gave when creating a mission statement
is to develop your winning idea, and to clarify your goal.
